A Mixed Wednesday Trade Keeps Grains in Check Thursday Morning
Grain markets were mostly mixed in Wednesday’s trade which has led to a relatively flat overnight trade, with the exception of soybeans which saw pressure right out of the gate last night.

Wednesday’s Recap
Wheat futures were higher Wednesday with the July contract finishing the session at 524’6, up 7’4, or 1.45%. Across all maturities, 105,137 contracts were traded, with 62,950 done in the July maturity. Total open interest finished the session at a one month high of 484,350, gaining 2,863 (0.59%). July open interest decreased 829, or 0.31%, to 269,033.
Technicals
July Chicago wheat futures posted the second consecutive day of gains and the longest winning streak in about a month. The market saw some follow through buying overnight, but that was short lived and muted. Next resistance remains intact at 532 1/2 with our pivot pocket acting as first support from 517 1/2-523 1/4.

Option trading centered around the July 550 calls with 4,067 changing hands and the July 480 puts with volume of 1,290. Options with the highest open interest are the July 550 call with 15,737, and the July 550 put with 9,351.
Volatility Update
As measured by WVL, implied volatility finished slightly lower, down 0.12 to close the day at 27.15. Gaining 0.52%, historical volatility (as measured by the 30-day) ended the day at 20.92%. The WVL Skew was moderately down with the 30-day dropping by 0.19, finishing at a one month low of 4.63.
