Live Cattle
Technicals (October – V) October live cattle managed to squeeze out a small gain in yesterday’s trade which was actually pretty impressive considering the carnage that we saw in some of the outside markets. August was the leader to the upside yesterday as futures try to converge with cash as first notice day inches closer. With a seasonally weaker time of year approaching, our expectations of a breakout are tempered.
Weekly Exprot Sales for Beef: Net sales of 13,400 MT for 2024 were down 13 percent from the previous week and 4 percent from the prior 4-week average.
Daily Livestock Summary: Cash trade was pretty mute yesterday. Cutouts were softer with choice cuts down .53 to 312.68 and select cuts down 2.70 to 293.96 Daily slaughter was reported at 122k head.

Feeder Cattle
Technicals (August – Q) August feeder cattle futures were lower in yesterday’s trade, but trendline support remains intact. A break and close below our pivot pocket from 256.125-256.70 could spark additional pressure into the market. The next support pocket comes in from 253.40-254.35.
