Livestock Markets Under Heavy Pressure to Start the Week. More Pressure to Come?
A wild start to the week for the livestock markets. Expanded limits for lean hogs are in place, 6.00.
Feeder Cattle (March)
As mentioned in the live cattle section, there were a number of headwinds for feeder cattle to start the week which pressured prices down to first support from 270.05-271.00. A break and close below here and a retest of the secondary breakout point from January 22nd would be the target, that comes in from 266.75-267.75. Below that and “higher lows” would be at risk. Seasonally speaking, weakness in the back half of the month is normal, whether or not that plays true or rears its head early is still TBD. Fund length should continue to be a concern for even the biggest Bull in the market.
Resistance: 277.25**, 279.20**
Pivot: 273.675-274.65
Support: 270.05-271.00***, 266.75-267.75***
Seasonal Tendency Update
(updated 2.3.25)
Below is a look at historical price averages for March futures on a 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 year time frames (Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results).

Commitment of Traders Report
Friday’s Commitment of Traders report showed Funds holding a net long position to the tune of 27,727 contracts, a slight reduction from the prior week’s record long position.

Lean Hogs (April)
April lean hogs were limit down yesterday which gives us expanded limits for today’s trade, that is at 6.00. We’d be surprised to not see follow-through as it appeared part of the recent run back higher was on concerns of tariffs, that is alleviated for the time being. 86.00-86.15 is first support, below that and we are 84.00-84.50. Below that and there’s air underneath the market.
Resistance: 91.00-91.35**, 92.77-93.60***
Pivot: 88.45
Support: 86.00-86.15**, 84.50***
