Market Recap
Corn futures were mostly lower Thursday with the Dec contract finishing the session at 397’2, unchanged. Overall volume was 388,553, with the Dec contract seeing 186,631 traded. Combined open interest shed 6,778 (0.43%) to 1,557,018. Dec added 8,474, or 1.07%, finishing at 797,213.
Technicals (December)
December corn futures looked like they were destined for new lows yesterday but held on and defended Tuesday’s low by 1/2 of a cent. Then, the market managed to rally back and stage an impressive close back near the highs of the session. So far, that has carried over into strength to start today’s trade. Price action since the WASDE report continues to be pretty impressive, but the Bulls still have their work cutout for them. Consecutive closes back above 396 3/4-399 is the first step in neutralizing some of the technical damage. 408-411 would be a more significant inflection point for prices. Above that and we could see more of a trend change.
